There was exciting news for SX recently with the announcement of Scottish Government funding that will allow us to build on our work in Lothian.
The funding means that we will be able to develop the experience we have gained since launching in June 2016 to deliver services that support men across Scotland.
The Scottish Government made funding available to deliver work across a range of issues covered by its Sexual Health and Blood Borne Virus Framework, and our parent charity, Waverley Care, was one of the organisations to receive funding.
Taking the same community-focused approach we’ve used in Lothian, we will continue to work in partnership with communities to improve the sex, health and wellbeing of gay and bisexual men, and men who have sex with men. Our focus will be on improving sexual health, reducing HIV and STI transmission, and encouraging men to access regular testing.
But we will also work to address the broader health inequalities faced by our communities, particularly around the disproportionate impact of issues like poor mental health and drug and alcohol use, to improve overall health and wellbeing.
Following the announcement of funding, work is now underway to firm up our plans and to recruit new members of the team to take the work forward so keep an eye out for updates.
While all this is going on, it’s business as usual for our Lothian services, so if there’s anything you need to talk to us about, you can get in touch.
We’re really excited to get started and look forward to working with communities and our partners to improve the health and wellbeing of all gay and bisexual men.
